Calicut Diocese Social Service Society (CDSSS) recently named as Jeevana is the official organ of the Calicut Diocese for social action and peoples empowerment. CDSSS has a rather long and momentous history of involvements in the social development field in Northern Kerala. Being the social arm of the Diocese, CDSSS has begun social service activities as early as in 1923 with the formation of the Diocese. CDSSS (Jeevana) got it registered under the Societies Act 1860 (Regn. No.S.181/78). The ‘charity approach’ that characterized its poverty alleviation interventions in the early days, has been gradually replaced by the current ‘development’ approach, aiming at people’s empowerment through participation.

Jeevana is at present working in three districts including Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram and Palakkad focusing on the marginalized families. The partners include small farmers, agriculture laborers, women, children, construction workers, small artisans, tribals and other disadvantaged group with a total of 21000 families. The Head Office of Jeevana is located at Eranhipalam, Calicut and it has three regional offices (Pachilakkad in Wayanad, Nilambur in Malappuram and Calicut) including three training centres - Wayanad, Perinthalmanna and Calicut.
